Ingredients
Scale
Dough and Filling
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for extra flavor)
Glaze
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to ensure easy cleanup and prevent sticking.
- Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Filling: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon until evenly combined. This mixture will serve as the sweet, spiced filling for the twists.
- Prepare Crescent Dough: Open the can of crescent roll dough and separate it into four rectangles, each made by joining two connected triangles. Press the seams firmly together to prevent the filling from leaking out.
- Assemble Twists: Brush each rectangle with the melted butter. Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over two of the rectangles. Then place the remaining two rectangles on top, creating a sandwich with the cinnamon filling inside.
- Slice and Twist: Using a knife or pizza cutter, slice each filled rectangle lengthwise into 4 to 5 strips. Take each strip and gently twist it several times before placing it onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake Twists: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the twists for 10 to 12 minutes, or until they have puffed up and turned a golden brown color.
- Make the Glaze: While the twists are baking, combine the powdered sugar, milk (start with 1 tablespoon and add more if needed for consistency), and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Stir until the glaze is smooth and pourable.
- Glaze and Serve: Once the twists are baked and slightly cooled, drizzle them with the prepared glaze for an extra touch of sweetness. Serve the cinnamon twists warm to enjoy their flaky texture and full flavor.
Notes
- You can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the cinnamon-sugar filling for an extra depth of flavor.
- The glaze thickness can be adjusted by varying the amount of milk; thicker glaze adds more sweetness, thinner glaze is easier to drizzle.
- For a nutty variation, sprinkle finely chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts on the filling before layering the dough.
- Store any leftover twists in an airtight container; they are best enjoyed within 1-2 days for optimal freshness.
- Reheat briefly in the oven or microwave to regain a warm, flaky texture before serving.
