Description
These Thai Basil Beef Lettuce Wraps are a quick and flavorful dish perfect for a light lunch or dinner. Lean ground beef is sautéed with garlic and seasoned with soy sauce, lime juice, and optional chili flakes, then mixed with fresh Thai basil and served in crisp butter lettuce leaves for a refreshing and healthy wrap.
Ingredients
Scale
Beef Mixture
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 tsp chili flakes (optional)
- 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves, chopped
Wraps
- 8 large butter lettuce leaves
- 1 tbsp cooking oil (for sautéing garlic)
Instructions
- Prep Ingredients: Mince the garlic finely and chop the fresh Thai basil leaves. Ensure the ground beef is fully thawed for even cooking.
- Sauté Garlic: Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until it turns golden and fragrant, taking care not to burn it.
- Cook Beef: Add the lean ground beef to the skillet. Stir frequently to break it apart and cook until it is fully browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the pan if necessary.
- Add Sauces: Stir in the low-sodium soy sauce and freshly squeezed lime juice to the cooked beef. If you like some heat, add the chili flakes at this stage and mix well to combine the flavors.
- Mix in Basil: Remove the skillet from heat and gently fold the chopped Thai basil leaves into the beef mixture just before serving to preserve their fresh aroma and flavor.
- Assemble Wraps: Lay out the butter lettuce leaves and spoon an equal amount of the beef mixture into each leaf. Roll up the wraps and serve immediately for the best texture and taste.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content and ensure the wraps remain light.
- Fresh Thai basil is essential for authentic flavor; substitute with sweet basil if unavailable but note the taste will differ.
- Adjust chili flakes according to your spice preference or omit if sensitive to heat.
- Butter lettuce leaves provide a soft but sturdy wrap; iceberg lettuce can be used as an alternative.
- Serve these wraps immediately after assembling to maintain the crispness of the lettuce.
