Ingredients
Scale
For the Sesame Sauce
- ¼ cup coconut sugar
- ½ cup coconut aminos
- 2 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- ½ tsp ground ginger
For the Beef Bowl
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 tsp butter
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 green onions, sliced (reserve a few for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare Aromatics: Mince the garlic cloves and thinly slice the green onions. Set aside for later use.
- Make Sesame Sauce: In a bowl, combine coconut sugar, coconut aminos, toasted sesame oil, crushed red pepper flakes, and ground ginger. Mix thoroughly with a fork or whisk and set aside.
- Sauté Garlic: Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add minced garlic and cook for about one minute until fragrant and softened.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add ground beef to the skillet and break it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and no pink remains, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add Sauce and Green Onions: Pour the prepared sesame sauce over the cooked beef and stir to combine. Mix in sliced green onions, reserving a few for garnish.
- Simmer Mixture: Reduce heat and let the mixture simmer for 2-5 minutes to meld flavors.
- Serve: Serve warm over rice, pasta, potatoes, or greens, garnished with remaining green onions.
Notes
- You can adjust the crushed red pepper flakes to make the dish more or less spicy.
- Serve the beef bowls with your choice of base such as jasmine rice, quinoa, noodles, or roasted vegetables.
- To make this recipe dairy-free, omit the butter and increase olive oil slightly.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for ground beef for a leaner option.
