Description

This Spicy Salmon Sushi Roll-Ups recipe is a quick and flavorful Japanese-inspired appetizer featuring just five simple ingredients. With seasoned sushi rice, flaked salmon, creamy avocado, and a spicy mayo drizzle, these roll-ups are perfect for an easy, no-cook meal or snack that packs a punch of taste and texture.

Ingredients

Scale

Rice

  • 1 cup cooked sushi rice (seasoned with rice vinegar)

Main Ingredients

  • 4 ounces canned or cooked salmon (flaked)
  • 2 sheets nori (seaweed)
  • 1 avocado (sliced)

Spicy Mayo

  • 2 tablespoons spicy mayo (mix mayonnaise with sriracha to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Nori and Rice: Lay a sheet of nori on a flat surface or bamboo sushi mat, shiny side down. Spread half the cooked sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge clear to help seal the roll later.
  2. Add Fillings: In the center of the rice, layer half of the flaked salmon, drizzle with spicy mayo, and place a few avocado slices on top, ensuring the ingredients are evenly distributed for a balanced bite.
  3. Roll the Sushi: Carefully roll up the sushi tightly from the bottom, applying gentle pressure to keep the roll compact and secure. Wet the top edge of the nori with a little water to seal the roll firmly.
  4. Repeat for Second Roll: Repeat the above steps with the second sheet of nori, rice, salmon, spicy mayo, and avocado.
  5. Slice and Serve: Using a sharp, wet knife, carefully slice each roll into 6–8 bite-sized pieces. Serve immediately with extra spicy mayo or soy sauce if desired for dipping.

Notes

  • Use canned wild salmon for convenience or substitute with cooked or smoked salmon.
  • For extra flavor and texture, add thin slices of cucumber, chopped green onion, or toasted sesame seeds inside the roll.
  • If you don’t have a bamboo sushi mat, use plastic wrap and a kitchen towel to help roll the sushi tightly.
