Description

This Spicy Calabrian Shrimp recipe features succulent large shrimp cooked in fragrant garlic and fiery Calabrian chili paste, finished with a bright hint of lemon and fresh parsley. Perfect for a quick and flavorful Italian-inspired main course, it’s great served over pasta, rice, or with crusty bread to soak up the bold, spicy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Marinade

  • 1 pound large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons Calabrian chili paste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry thoroughly with paper towels to ensure they sear properly and cook evenly.
  2. Heat the Skillet: In a large skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil until shimmering, then add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  3. Add Chili Paste: Stir in the Calabrian chili paste and cook for another 30 seconds to release its flavors into the oil.
  4. Cook the Shrimp: Add the shrimp to the skillet and season with salt and black pepper. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, until the shrimp turn pink and opaque, indicating they are perfectly done.
  5. Finish with Lemon and Parsley: Remove the skillet from heat, drizzle the shrimp with fresh lemon juice, sprinkle with lemon zest, and toss gently to coat. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Serve this shrimp over pasta, rice, or with a side of crusty bread to soak up the delicious spicy sauce.
  • Adjust the heat by using more or less Calabrian chili paste according to your spice preference.
  • For added richness, stir in a tablespoon of butter at the end of cooking.
