Description

Deliciously tender smothered pork chops cooked in a rich and creamy onion gravy, perfect for a comforting family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Pork Chops

  • 4 bone-in pork chops, about 1 inch thick
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Gravy

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season Pork Chops: Season pork chops on both sides with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to prepare them for searing.
  2. Sear Pork Chops: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add pork chops and sear for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook Onions: Reduce heat to medium, add butter to the skillet. Add sliced onions and cook for 5-6 minutes until softened and caramelized.
  4. Add Garlic and Flour: Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute. Sprinkle flour over onions and stir to create a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Make Gravy: Slowly whisk in chicken broth ensuring no lumps. Stir in heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  6. Simmer Pork Chops: Return pork chops to skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes until chops are cooked through.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve hot with sides like mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate pork chops in olive oil, garlic, and herbs for 30 minutes before cooking.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the creamy onion gravy.
