Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
Sauce
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional for extra flavor)
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger or fresh ginger, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Garnish (optional)
- Chopped green onions
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, minced garlic, vinegar, ground ginger, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Add the chicken to the slow cooker: Place the boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs evenly in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Pour the sauce: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce over the chicken, making sure each piece is well-coated with the flavorful mixture.
- Cook: Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on low heat for 4 to 6 hours, or on high heat for 2 to 3 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked, tender, and easily shredded.
- Serve: Once cooked, you may remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks if you prefer. Stir the sauce remaining in the slow cooker to combine and drizzle it over the shredded or whole chicken when serving.
- Optional garnish: Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top for added flavor and a satisfying crunch before serving.
Notes
- You can use either chicken breasts or thighs based on your preference; thighs will be juicier.
- For a thicker sauce, optionally remove the chicken after cooking and simmer the sauce on high with the lid off for 15 minutes.
- Serve over steamed rice or alongside stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Adjust the amount of garlic and ginger to suit your taste preferences.
