Description

A deliciously indulgent Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese sandwich combining savory sloppy joe filling with melted Colby-Jack cheese, sandwiched between buttered Texas toast and grilled to a crispy golden perfection. Ready in just 11 minutes, this easy stovetop recipe makes a comforting meal for two.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread & Butter

  • 4 slices Bread (Texas toast recommended)
  • 5 tablespoons Butter, divided

Filling

  • 1/2 cup Sloppy joe mix, prepared (homemade or canned such as Manwich)
  • 1/4 cup Colby-Jack cheese, shredded (or Monterey Jack, Provolone, American, Brie, or sharp cheddar)

Instructions

  1. Butter the Bread: Generously butter one side of each piece of bread using 1 tablespoon of butter per side. This helps achieve a crispy and golden finish when grilling.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich: Place 1/4 cup of prepared sloppy joe mix on the unbuttered side of one slice of bread, ensuring the buttered side faces outward. Sprinkle 1/8 cup of shredded cheese on top of the sloppy joe mix. Cover with a second slice of bread, with the buttered side on the outside. Repeat this process to make two sandwiches.
  3. Heat the Skillet: Preheat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter in the skillet to prepare for grilling.
  4. Grill the Sandwiches: Place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet. Grill each sandwich until the bread is lightly browned and crispy on each side, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Press lightly as needed and watch carefully to prevent burning.
  5. Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and serve immediately while the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.

Notes

  • You can substitute Texas toast with any thick sliced bread you prefer.
  • Use your favorite type of cheese for a different flavor profile.
  • Leftover sloppy joe mix works great for this recipe.
  • Grill on medium heat to ensure the cheese melts thoroughly without burning the bread.
  • Press sandwiches lightly while grilling for even cooking and to bind ingredients well.
