Jam Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries)
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- 2-3 tbsp honey or maple syrup (to taste)
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Prepare the Berries: Rinse the fresh berries thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or debris, then gently pat them dry with a clean towel. Remove any stems to ensure a smooth jam texture.
- Mash the Berries: Place the cleaned berries into a mixing bowl and mash them using a fork or potato masher until you reach your desired texture, whether smooth or slightly chunky.
- Mix Ingredients: Add chia seeds, honey or maple syrup, and water to the mashed berries. Stir everything together until well combined, ensuring the chia seeds are evenly distributed.
- Allow to Thicken: Let the mixture sit at room temperature for 15 to 30 minutes. During this time, the chia seeds will absorb moisture and expand, naturally thickening the jam.
- Store the Jam: Transfer the thickened jam into a clean jar with a tight-fitting lid. Refrigerate and consume within two weeks for best freshness and flavor.
Notes
- You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less honey or maple syrup according to your taste preference.
- For a smoother jam, blend the berries before mixing in chia seeds.
- This jam is naturally gluten-free and vegan if you use maple syrup instead of honey.
- If you prefer a seedless jam, strain the berry mash before adding chia seeds.
- Use fresh, ripe berries for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
