Ingredients
Scale
Sausage and Egg Filling
- ½ lb breakfast sausage
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 6 large eggs
- ¼ cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Rolls and Glaze
- 1 (24-oz) package Hawaiian rolls (24-count)
- Chives for garnish
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- ¼ cup butter
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350ºF to prepare for baking the filled rolls.
- Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the breakfast sausage until it is no longer pink inside. Drain any excess grease to keep the rolls from becoming oily.
- Scramble the Eggs: Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the skillet over medium heat. Whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Pour this mixture into the skillet and scramble the eggs until fully cooked. Remove from heat.
- Prepare the Rolls: Place the Hawaiian rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cut a square in the top of each roll and press down the cut-out bread into the roll to create a cavity for the filling.
- Assemble the Rolls: Spoon scrambled eggs evenly into each roll cavity. Top the eggs with crumbled cooked sausage and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- Make the Maple Butter Glaze: In a small saucepan, combine the maple syrup and ¼ cup butter. Warm over low heat until the butter melts and the mixture is well combined. Spoon the glaze generously over each roll.
- Bake the Rolls: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the rolls are golden brown on top.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle chopped chives or fresh parsley over the rolls for a fresh finishing touch. Serve warm.
Notes
- You can substitute Hawaiian rolls with any soft dinner rolls if unavailable.
- For extra flavor, consider adding diced onions or bell peppers to the egg mixture.
- These rolls can be prepared in advance and baked just before serving to save time.
- Leftover rolls can be reheated gently in the oven or microwave.
