Description

This Sausage Gravy Breakfast Pizza combines the comforting flavors of classic sausage gravy and cheesy pizza topped with perfectly baked eggs. It’s a delicious and hearty breakfast or brunch option that serves six, featuring a golden crust, creamy sausage gravy, melted mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, and fresh parsley for garnish.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 package refrigerated pizza dough

Sausage Gravy

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare Sausage Gravy: Cook sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Do not drain the grease to retain flavor.
  2. Add Flour: Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the browned sausage and cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste and form a roux.
  3. Make Gravy: Gradually stir in the milk, continually stirring and cooking until the mixture thickens to a creamy gravy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the pizza.
  5. Prepare Dough: Roll out the refrigerated pizza dough on a greased baking sheet to form the pizza base.
  6. Spread Sausage Gravy: Evenly spread the prepared sausage gravy over the pizza dough, covering the surface completely.
  7. Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly over the sausage gravy layer.
  8. Add Eggs: Create six small wells or indentations in the cheese and carefully crack one egg into each well to keep them separate while baking.
  9. Bake the Pizza: Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the eggs are set to your liking and the crust is golden brown.
  10. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chopped fresh parsley over the pizza before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can adjust the seasoning of the gravy with additional herbs or spices as desired.
  • For a crispier crust, bake the dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
  • Ensure eggs are fresh for best flavor and appearance when baked.
  • Serve with a side of fruit or a light salad for a balanced breakfast.
