Description

This Red Velvet Trifle is a luscious, layered dessert featuring moist red velvet cake, creamy whipped cream cheese filling, and fresh blueberries and strawberries. Perfect for parties or family gatherings, this trifle combines classic flavors with an elegant presentation in a glass dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Red Velvet Cake

  • 1 box Red Velvet cake mix (plus eggs, oil, and water as per package instructions)

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 2 blocks (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream

Fruit Toppings

  • 2 cups blueberries
  • 1 cup strawberries, halved

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cake: Preheat the oven and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing them thoroughly to ensure the cakes will release easily. Prepare the red velvet cake batter according to the box instructions, including eggs, oil, and water. Divide the batter evenly between the pans and bake as directed. Remove cakes from oven and allow them to cool completely.
  2. Make Cream Cheese Filling: In a large bowl, use an electric hand mixer to beat together softened cream cheese and granulated sugar until smooth and creamy. Add vanilla extract and heavy whipping cream. Continue beating until the mixture thickens into a smooth, fluffy filling.
  3. Assemble First Layer: Place one cooled cake layer into the bottom of a large trifle dish. Spread half of the cream cheese filling evenly over the cake. Arrange blueberries in a single layer on top of the filling.
  4. Assemble Second Layer and Finish: Place the second cake layer over the blueberries. Spread the remaining cream cheese filling evenly over the top. Finish by arranging halved strawberries and a few additional blueberries on top. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve, allowing flavors to meld beautifully.

Notes

  • Ensure the cakes are completely cooled before assembling to prevent the cream cheese filling from melting.
  • For best results, use full-fat cream cheese and heavy whipping cream for a rich, creamy texture.
  • You can substitute fresh raspberries for the blueberries for a different berry flavor.
  • This dessert should be served chilled and is best enjoyed within 2 days.
  • Make sure to grease the cake pans very well to avoid sticking.
