Description

A quick and easy homemade strawberry coulis recipe that transforms fresh or frozen strawberries into a smooth, flavorful sauce perfect for drizzling over desserts, pancakes, or yogurt. Sweetened with sugar and brightened with lime juice, this versatile coulis is simple to prepare and adds a fresh fruity touch to your dishes.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 450 g fresh strawberries (or frozen)
  • 80 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (or lemon juice)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries: If using fresh strawberries, wash them thoroughly, remove the stems, and hull them. Slice each strawberry into quarters for even cooking.
  2. Simmer the Mixture: Combine the strawberries, sugar, and lime juice in a saucepan. Heat over medium-high, bringing the mixture to a simmer. As it begins to boil and bubble, reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently until the strawberries have broken down and softened. Keep in mind this step may take a few minutes longer if using frozen strawberries.
  3. Blend to Sauce: Transfer the cooked mixture to a blender, food processor, or use a stick blender carefully. Pulse or blend until the mixture is smooth and reaches a sauce-like consistency. Be cautious with the hot liquid to avoid burns.
  4. Cool and Store: Pour the strawberry coulis into a clean jar or airtight container and let it cool to room temperature before sealing. Store refrigerated and use as desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute lemon juice if lime juice is unavailable, they both add a nice acidity to balance the sweetness.
  • Using frozen strawberries may require a slightly longer cooking time to fully break down the fruit.
  • The coulis can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week or frozen for longer preservation.
  • Adjust the sugar amount to taste depending on the sweetness of your strawberries.
