- â…“ cup diced green bell pepper
- â…“ cup diced red onion
- 4 fresh basil leaves, julienned
Instructions
- Preheat and Toast Bread: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and arrange the Texas toast slices in a single layer. Bake for about 3 to 4 minutes until the bread just starts to toast and get slightly crispy.
- Add Toppings: Remove the toasted bread from the oven and flip each slice over. Spread 1 tablespoon of prepared pizza sauce evenly onto each slice. Then sprinkle 3 tablespoons of shredded mozzarella cheese on top, followed by 3 slices of pepperoni. Add a few slices of button mushrooms, some diced green bell pepper, and diced red onion evenly over each slice. Finally, top each with an additional 2 tablespoons of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake: Return the prepared bread slices to the oven and bake for 5 to 8 minutes. Bake until the cheese has fully melted and shows some golden brown spots, creating that delicious crispy and gooey texture.
- Serve: Once baked, remove the pizza toasts from the oven. Sprinkle them with freshly julienned basil leaves for a burst of fresh flavor. Serve immediately and enjoy your quick and tasty pizza toast.
Notes
- Use thick Texas toast for the best base that holds all toppings well and toasts to perfect crunchiness.
- Customize toppings to your preference—try adding olives, jalapeños, or different cheeses.
- Keep an eye on the bread while toasting to avoid burning, as ovens vary.
- For extra crispiness, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end but watch closely.
- This recipe is perfect for a quick after-school snack or easy dinner.
