Ingredients
Scale
Meat Mixture
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb Italian sausage, crumbled
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Toppings
- 1/2 lb pepperoni slices
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup pizza sauce
Base and Garnish
- 8 small flour tortillas
- Fresh basil leaves, chopped
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage until fully browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Add dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the meat mixture then stir well to combine all the flavors.
- Prepare the Tacos: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lay the tortillas flat on a work surface. Spread a thin, even layer of pizza sauce over each tortilla. Distribute the cooked meat mixture evenly on top of the sauced tortillas. Add pepperoni slices and sliced black olives over the meat, then sprinkle evenly with shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses.
- Bake the Tacos: Arrange the prepared tortillas on a baking sheet in a single layer. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese has melted completely, is bubbly, and the edges of the tortillas become crisp and golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the pizza tacos from the oven and allow them to cool slightly so they hold their shape. Garnish with freshly chopped basil leaves, a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese, and red pepper flakes if you prefer a bit of heat. Cut each pizza taco into wedges and serve warm for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- To make this recipe gluten-free, substitute flour tortillas with gluten-free tortillas.
- You can customize toppings by adding vegetables like diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or onions for extra flavor and nutrition.
- If you prefer spicier tacos, add jalapeño slices or increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
- Leftover pizza tacos can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for crispiness.
- For a lower-fat version, use lean ground beef and turkey Italian sausage, and reduce the cheese quantities.
