Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a warm, creamy appetizer inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Featuring thinly sliced ribeye steak, sautéed onions and bell peppers, and a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, provolone, and mozzarella cheeses, it’s baked until bubbly and golden. Perfect for parties or gatherings, this dip captures all the flavors of the beloved sandwich in a shareable, crowd-pleasing form.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ribeye steak or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 small bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Dairy and Sauces

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 cups provolone cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Seasonings and Extras

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Optional: Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the steak: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced steak and cook until browned and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes. Remove the steak from the skillet and set it aside.
  2. Sauté the vegetables: In the same skillet, add the sliced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Make the dip base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, and black pepper. Stir until smooth and fully combined.
  4. Add the steak and veggies: Add the cooked steak and sautéed vegetables into the cream cheese mixture. Stir to combine.
  5. Add the cheese: Fold in the shredded provolone and mozzarella cheeses. Mix until the cheese is evenly distributed and the mixture is creamy.
  6. Bake the dip: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the dip mixture into a baking dish (such as a 9×9-inch dish or a similar size). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden on top.
  7. Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Optionally, garnish with fresh chopped parsley for added color. Serve warm with baguette slices, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Notes

  • For best results, use thinly sliced ribeye or flank steak, which cooks quickly and stays tender.
  • You can customize the heat by adding some diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the dip base.
  • If you want a lower-fat version, substitute light sour cream and reduced-fat cheeses.
  • Make sure to cook the steak and vegetables well to avoid excess liquid in the dip.
  • This dip can be prepared a day ahead and baked just before serving.
