Base
- 1 sheet of puff pastry or flatbread
Toppings
- 2 pears, thinly sliced
- 4 oz (120g) Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup (30g) chopped walnuts
- A handful of arugula leaves
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Finishing
- 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
- Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
Optional Substitutions
- Swap Gorgonzola with goat cheese or blue cheese
- Use pecans instead of walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare it for baking the flatbread.
- Roll Out the Puff Pastry: Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the puff pastry sheet to your desired thickness. If using flatbread instead, place it directly onto a baking sheet.
- Drizzle Olive Oil: Evenly drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the puff pastry or flatbread base to add flavor and help with browning.
- Arrange the Pear Slices: Thinly slice 2 pears and arrange them in overlapping layers across the entire pastry or flatbread base for an even distribution of sweetness.
- Scatter the Cheese: Sprinkle 4 oz (120g) of crumbled Gorgonzola cheese evenly over the pear slices to add a creamy, tangy contrast.
- Bake: Place the assembled flatbread in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and crispy and the cheese is bubbling.
- Final Touches: Remove the flatbread from the oven and drizzle 1/4 cup (60ml) honey over the top. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup (30g) chopped walnuts, a handful of fresh arugula leaves, and freshly cracked black pepper to taste before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute Gorgonzola with goat cheese or any blue cheese if preferred.
- Walnuts can be replaced with pecans or other nuts you prefer.
- Serve the flatbread warm for the best flavor and texture.
- Make sure to slice the pears thinly so they cook evenly and blend well with the cheese.
- If using pre-made flatbread instead of puff pastry, adjust baking time slightly to avoid overbrowning.
