Description

This Pear and Gorgonzola Flatbread is an elegant and easy-to-make dinner idea that combines the sweetness of ripe pears with the creamy and tangy flavor of Gorgonzola cheese. Topped with crunchy walnuts, peppery arugula, and a drizzle of honey, this flatbread offers a delightful balance of flavors and textures, perfect for a sophisticated yet simple meal or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry or flatbread

Toppings

  • 2 pears, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz (120g) Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup (30g) chopped walnuts
  • A handful of arugula leaves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Finishing

  • 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Optional Substitutions

  • Swap Gorgonzola with goat cheese or blue cheese
  • Use pecans instead of walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare it for baking the flatbread.
  2. Roll Out the Puff Pastry: Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the puff pastry sheet to your desired thickness. If using flatbread instead, place it directly onto a baking sheet.
  3. Drizzle Olive Oil: Evenly drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the puff pastry or flatbread base to add flavor and help with browning.
  4. Arrange the Pear Slices: Thinly slice 2 pears and arrange them in overlapping layers across the entire pastry or flatbread base for an even distribution of sweetness.
  5. Scatter the Cheese: Sprinkle 4 oz (120g) of crumbled Gorgonzola cheese evenly over the pear slices to add a creamy, tangy contrast.
  6. Bake: Place the assembled flatbread in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and crispy and the cheese is bubbling.
  7. Final Touches: Remove the flatbread from the oven and drizzle 1/4 cup (60ml) honey over the top. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup (30g) chopped walnuts, a handful of fresh arugula leaves, and freshly cracked black pepper to taste before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute Gorgonzola with goat cheese or any blue cheese if preferred.
  • Walnuts can be replaced with pecans or other nuts you prefer.
  • Serve the flatbread warm for the best flavor and texture.
  • Make sure to slice the pears thinly so they cook evenly and blend well with the cheese.
  • If using pre-made flatbread instead of puff pastry, adjust baking time slightly to avoid overbrowning.
