Ingredients
Scale
Beef Patties
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Bread and Cheese
- 6 slices rye bread
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 6 tablespoons butter, softened and unsalted
Secret Sauce
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons chopped bacon pieces
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon relish
Instructions
- Prepare Patties: Form the ground beef into 3 flattened patties and season them evenly with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to enhance their flavor.
- Cook Patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties until they are fully cooked through, approximately 4-5 minutes per side. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Make Secret Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon pieces, ketchup, sugar, and relish. Mix thoroughly until well blended and set aside.
- Prepare Bread: Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of rye bread. Place the buttered side down onto the heated skillet for toasting.
- Assemble Sandwiches: On each slice of bread in the skillet, layer 2 slices of provolone cheese, one cooked beef patty, and 2 slices of cheddar cheese. Spread secret sauce on the unbuttered side of an additional slice of bread and place it on top, sauce side down, to complete the sandwich.
- Grill Sandwiches: Once the cheese begins to melt and the bottom slice of bread turns golden brown, carefully flip the sandwich to grill the other side until it is toasted and the cheese is fully melted, about 3-4 minutes.
- Serve: Remove the patty melts from the skillet and serve warm, enjoying the melty cheese and flavorful secret sauce with each bite.
Notes
- You can substitute rye bread with sourdough for a milder flavor.
- For crispier bacon, cook bacon separately before chopping and adding it to the sauce.
- Optional: Add caramelized onions for extra sweetness and texture.
- Use a spatula to carefully flip the sandwiches to prevent them from falling apart.
- Serve with pickles or a side salad for a complete meal.
