Description

This Oreo Pudding Poke Cake is a decadent, crowd-pleasing chocolate dessert perfect for any occasion. Featuring a moist chocolate cake base with pockets of creamy instant chocolate pudding, topped with fluffy whipped topping, crunchy crushed Oreo cookies, and mini chocolate chips, this easy-to-make poke cake combines the best textures and flavors for an irresistible treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix plus ingredients listed on the box

Pudding Filling

  • 1 package (3.9 ounces) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold whole milk

Toppings

  • 1 package (14.3 ounces) Oreo cookies, crushed and divided
  • 1 container (8 ounces) whipped topping, thawed
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare cake: Preheat your oven according to the directions on the cake mix box and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix and bake cake: Prepare the chocolate cake batter as directed on the package. Pour the batter into the greased baking dish and bake according to the specified time and temperature on the box instructions.
  3. Cool and poke holes: Once baked, allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes. Then, using the handle of a wooden spoon, carefully poke holes all over the top of the cake to enable the pudding to seep into the cake layers.
  4. Prepare pudding: In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix with cold whole milk until smooth and slightly thickened, which should take about 2 minutes.
  5. Pour pudding over cake: Immediately pour the prepared chocolate pudding evenly over the cake surface, gently pressing it into the holes to infuse the cake with creamy pudding.
  6. Chill cake: Let the cake cool completely to room temperature, then refrigerate it for at least 2 hours to allow the pudding to fully set inside the cake.
  7. Add whipped topping and garnish: Spread the thawed whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake, then sprinkle the remaining crushed Oreo cookies and mini chocolate chips on top.
  8. Final refrigeration and serving: Refrigerate the decorated cake for an additional 30 minutes before slicing into 12 servings and serving chilled.

Notes

  • For an enhanced cookies and cream flavor, substitute the chocolate pudding mix with cookies and cream pudding mix.
  • Keep the cake refrigerated until ready to serve to maintain freshness and pudding texture.
  • Reserve a few whole Oreo cookies to use as garnish on top for an appealing presentation.
