Description

Lipton Onion Potatoes is a comforting slow cooker dish featuring thinly sliced potatoes seasoned with Lipton Onion Soup mix, melted butter, and optional shredded cheddar cheese. This easy-to-make recipe results in tender, flavorful potatoes perfect as a side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 6 large potatoes, thinly sliced (peeled if desired)

Seasoning

  • 1 packet Lipton Onion Soup mix
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, but highly recommended)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
  • Cooking spray or butter, for greasing

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Slow Cooker: Grease the inside of the slow cooker generously with cooking spray or butter to prevent the potatoes from sticking during cooking.
  2. Prepare Potatoes: Wash and peel the potatoes if you prefer, then slice them thinly and evenly to ensure consistent cooking throughout.
  3. Season the Potatoes: In a large bowl, toss the potato slices with the melted butter. Add the Lipton Onion Soup mix and mix thoroughly so all slices are well-coated. If using, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese for added flavor and richness.
  4. Layer & Add Liquid: Place the seasoned potato slices evenly into the greased slow cooker. Pour the chicken broth or water over the top to help create steam and infuse moisture and flavor into the potatoes as they cook.
  5. Cook on Low or High: Cover and cook on the low setting for 5 to 6 hours or on the high setting for 2 to 3 hours, until the potatoes are fork-tender and fully cooked through.
  6. Finish & Serve: Once cooked, check the seasoning by tasting the potatoes and add salt and pepper to your preference. Serve hot as a delicious side dish to your meal.

Notes

  • For an even richer flavor, use chicken broth instead of water.
  • Cheddar cheese is optional but strongly recommended for added creaminess and taste.
  • Make sure to slice potatoes thinly and evenly for uniform cooking.
  • You can adjust cooking times depending on your slow cooker model and potato thickness.
  • This recipe is great for entertaining as it requires minimal hands-on time.
