Description

This Keto Sweet and Sour Turnips recipe offers a delicious low-carb side dish featuring tender turnips coated in a tangy and slightly sweet glaze. Perfect for keto meal plans, this easy skillet-cooked dish combines vibrant flavors of apple cider vinegar, mustard, and erythritol for a balanced taste that complements any main course.

Ingredients

Scale

Turnips

  • 4 medium turnips, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes

For Cooking and Glaze

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon erythritol (or your preferred keto-friendly sweetener)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Garnish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the turnips: Peel and cut the turnips into 1-inch cubes. Set them aside to be ready for cooking.
  2. Cook the turnips: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the turnip cubes and cook for approximately 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the turnips are tender and have a light golden brown color on the edges.
  3. Make the sweet and sour glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together apple cider vinegar, erythritol, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until the erythritol is completely dissolved and the mixture is homogenous.
  4. Coat the turnips: Pour the prepared sweet and sour glaze over the cooked turnips in the skillet. Stir well to ensure the turnips are evenly coated. Continue to cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, allowing the glaze to thicken slightly and cling to the turnips.
  5. Serve: Remove from heat, garnish with freshly chopped parsley, and serve immediately as a flavorful keto-friendly side dish.

Notes

  • This recipe uses erythritol as a keto-friendly sweetener, but you can substitute with any preferred low-carb sweetener.
  • Make sure not to overcook the turnips to retain a slight firmness and avoid mushiness.
  • Fresh parsley adds a burst of color and freshness; omit if unavailable or substitute with fresh cilantro.
  • Adjust salt and pepper according to your taste preference.
  • For a more intense flavor, consider adding a splash of lemon juice along with apple cider vinegar.
