Description

These Jalapeno Popper Mummies are a spooky and delicious appetizer perfect for Halloween parties. Creamy, cheesy jalapeños wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough are transformed into adorable mummy shapes with candy googly eyes, making them a fun treat for guests of all ages.

Ingredients

Scale

Jalapeno Poppers

  • 6 large jalapenos, halved and seeds removed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Dough and Decoration

  • 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Candy googly eyes or small pieces of black olives for eyes

Instructions

  1. Prepare Jalapenos: Slice the jalapenos in half lengthwise and carefully remove the seeds to reduce the heat. Set aside.
  2. Make Filling: In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded Monterey Jack cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
  3. Fill Jalapenos: Spoon the cheese mixture evenly into each jalapeno half, filling them generously.
  4. Wrap Jalapenos: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Unroll the crescent roll dough and cut it into thin strips. Wrap the strips around each stuffed jalapeno half to mimic mummy bandages, leaving gaps for the eyes.
  5. Apply Egg Wash: Brush the beaten egg over the crescent dough to give the mummies a golden brown finish when baked.
  6. Bake: Place the wrapped jalapenos on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the dough is golden and cooked through.
  7. Add Eyes: After baking, press candy googly eyes or small pieces of black olives onto the exposed jalapeno filling to create eyes for the mummies.
  8. Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy as a festive and flavorful appetizer!

Notes

  • Be sure to remove jalapeno seeds carefully to control spiciness.
  • Use oven mitts when handling hot baking sheets.
  • For a milder version, substitute jalapenos with mild peppers or mini sweet peppers.
  • Keep an eye on the dough as baking times may vary slightly depending on your oven.
