Ingredients
Scale
Jalapeno Poppers
- 6 large jalapenos, halved and seeds removed
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Dough and Decoration
- 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Candy googly eyes or small pieces of black olives for eyes
Instructions
- Prepare Jalapenos: Slice the jalapenos in half lengthwise and carefully remove the seeds to reduce the heat. Set aside.
- Make Filling: In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded Monterey Jack cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
- Fill Jalapenos: Spoon the cheese mixture evenly into each jalapeno half, filling them generously.
- Wrap Jalapenos: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Unroll the crescent roll dough and cut it into thin strips. Wrap the strips around each stuffed jalapeno half to mimic mummy bandages, leaving gaps for the eyes.
- Apply Egg Wash: Brush the beaten egg over the crescent dough to give the mummies a golden brown finish when baked.
- Bake: Place the wrapped jalapenos on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the dough is golden and cooked through.
- Add Eyes: After baking, press candy googly eyes or small pieces of black olives onto the exposed jalapeno filling to create eyes for the mummies.
- Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy as a festive and flavorful appetizer!
Notes
- Be sure to remove jalapeno seeds carefully to control spiciness.
- Use oven mitts when handling hot baking sheets.
- For a milder version, substitute jalapenos with mild peppers or mini sweet peppers.
- Keep an eye on the dough as baking times may vary slightly depending on your oven.
