Description

Hissy Fit Breakfast Casserole is a hearty and savory breakfast dish featuring a flaky crescent roll crust filled with seasoned sausage, melted muenster and Velveeta cheeses, and a flavorful egg custard. Perfect for a crowd, this casserole combines simple ingredients into a comforting meal that’s baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 (8-oz) can refrigerated crescent rolls

Filling

  • 1 lb sausage
  • 6 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded muenster cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Velveeta cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350ºF. Lightly spray a 9x13x2 inch baking pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook sausage: In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the sausage until it is fully browned and no longer pink. Drain the excess fat from the cooked sausage.
  3. Form crust: Unroll the refrigerated crescent rolls and press them into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared baking pan, ensuring the seams are pressed together to seal the crust completely.
  4. Add sausage and cheese: Evenly sprinkle the cooked sausage over the crescent roll crust, then add the shredded muenster and Velveeta cheeses on top of the sausage layer.
  5. Prepare egg mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until the mixture is smooth and well blended. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the sausage and cheese layers in the pan.
  6. Bake casserole: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the center is fully set and the top is lightly golden.

Notes

  • You can substitute the sausage with bacon or ham if preferred.
  • Adding chopped vegetables like bell peppers or spinach can increase the nutritional value and add color.
  • To check doneness, insert a knife in the center; it should come out clean.
  • Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes after baking for easier slicing.
  • For a lower fat version, use turkey sausage and reduced-fat cheeses.
