Description

Delightfully crispy and creamy, these Guacamole Cream Cheese Wontons combine the rich flavors of smooth cream cheese and zesty guacamole wrapped in crispy fried wonton wrappers. Perfect as a party appetizer or snack, they offer a fusion of Mexican-American flavors with a satisfying crunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup guacamole (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Wontons

  • 20 wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Optional Garnishes

  • Chopped cilantro
  • Diced jalapeño

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, guacamole, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  2. Assemble the wontons: Lay the wonton wrappers flat on a clean surface. Place approximately 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of each wrapper. Lightly wet the edges of the wrapper with water to help seal.
  3. Fold and seal: Fold each wonton into a triangle or bring all four corners together to form a pouch, pressing firmly to seal the edges tightly and prevent filling leakage.
  4. Heat the oil: Pour 1 to 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the wontons: Carefully place the wontons in the hot oil in small batches. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy, turning them as needed to ensure even cooking.
  6. Drain and serve: Remove the wontons using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, bake the wontons at 400°F (200°C) for 10 to 12 minutes instead of frying.
  • Serve these wontons with salsa, sour cream, or a lime crema for added flavor.
  • Add diced jalapeño to the filling for an extra kick of heat.
