A quick and flavorful Garlic Butter Shrimp with Asparagus recipe that combines succulent shrimp sautéed in garlic butter with tender-crisp asparagus for a healthy and delicious meal perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
Scale
Seafood
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
Vegetables
- 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
Fats & Oils
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Seasonings
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Herbs & Garnish
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- Optional: lemon wedges for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the shrimp: Season the peeled and deveined shrimp evenly with salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. This will infuse the shrimp with flavor before cooking.
- Cook the shrimp: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they turn pink, opaque, and are cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside to prevent overcooking.
- Sauté the garlic: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and melt the unsalted butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant but not browned, allowing the garlic to infuse the butter with its aroma.
- Cook the asparagus: Add the trimmed and cut asparagus pieces to the skillet with the garlic butter. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the asparagus is tender-crisp, maintaining some bite and vibrant green color.
- Combine shrimp and asparagus: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss everything together so the shrimp and asparagus are well coated with the garlic butter sauce.
- Finish and serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Garnish the dish with chopped fresh parsley for a burst of color and freshness. Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side if desired to add a bright citrus touch.
Notes
- You can substitute asparagus with broccoli or green beans depending on your preference.
- For extra flavor, add a splash of white wine when cooking the garlic and asparagus.
- This dish pairs well served over rice or pasta, or enjoyed as a low-carb meal on its own.
