Ingredients
Scale
Mushrooms
- 1 lb (16 oz) whole mushrooms (cremini, button, or portobello)
Garlic Butter Marinade
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
Instructions
- Prepare the Mushrooms: Clean the mushrooms by wiping them gently with a damp paper towel to remove any dirt. For larger mushrooms like portobello, remove the stems and slice if desired. For smaller ones like button or cremini, leave them whole.
- Make the Garlic Butter: Melt the butter in a small bowl using the microwave or stovetop. Stir in minced garlic, olive oil, salt, black pepper, dried thyme, and red pepper flakes if using. Mix thoroughly to combine all flavors.
- Marinate the Mushrooms: Place the mushrooms in a shallow dish or large bowl. Pour the garlic butter mixture over them, tossing to evenly coat. Let them marinate for 15-20 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Preheat the Grill: Set your grill to medium-high heat, approximately 375°F to 400°F (190°C to 200°C), ensuring it’s hot and ready for grilling.
- Grill the Mushrooms: For smaller mushrooms, use a grill basket to prevent them from falling through grates; larger mushrooms can be grilled directly on grates or skewered. Grill each side for 3-4 minutes until tender and grill marks appear.
- Serve: Remove grilled mushrooms from heat and transfer to a serving plate. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired and serve hot to enjoy the full flavor.
Notes
- Use fresh mushrooms for the best texture and flavor.
- If you don’t have a grill, you can use a grill pan on the stovetop as an alternative.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred heat level or omit for a milder taste.
- The mushrooms can be served as a side dish or as a topping for steaks, burgers, or salads.
- Marinating longer than 20 minutes is fine but not necessary; the flavors develop quickly.
