Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 large shallots, minced
- 2 pounds baby bok choy, halved or quartered
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Heat the vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet set over medium-high heat. Swirl the oil to coat the entire surface of the pan evenly, preparing it for sautéing.
- Sauté aromatics: Add the minced garlic and shallots to the hot oil. Stir constantly for 1-2 minutes until they become fragrant and slightly softened, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add bok choy and sauces: Add the halved or quartered baby bok choy along with the soy sauce and sesame oil. Toss everything together to evenly coat the bok choy in the oils and seasoning.
- Steam the bok choy: Cover the pan with a lid and allow the bok choy to steam for 1-2 minutes. Then remove the lid, toss the bok choy again to redistribute the sauce, and cover once more.
- Finish cooking: Continue cooking covered for an additional 3-5 minutes until the bok choy is tender but still vibrant. Adjust cooking time based on your desired tenderness.
- Serve: Sprinkle with crushed red pepper flakes if desired for a bit of heat. Serve immediately while hot and flavorful. Enjoy your easy stir-fried bok choy!
Notes
- You can adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes to suit your heat preference or omit entirely.
- Use fresh baby bok choy for best texture; mature bok choy may require longer cooking time.
- This dish pairs beautifully with steamed rice or as a side to grilled meats or tofu.
