Description

Enjoy a nostalgic treat with these delicious Fried Bologna Sandwiches, featuring crispy fried bologna slices layered with melty cheese, tangy mayonnaise, and optional pickles and mustard, all grilled to golden perfection between buttery toasted bread.

Ingredients

Scale

Bologna and Cheese

  • 6 slices thick-cut bologna
  • 2 slices American cheese or cheddar

Bread and Spreads

  • 4 slices sandwich bread (white or whole wheat)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for spreading on bread)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard (optional)

Extras

  • 4–6 pickle chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preparation Steps: Gather all ingredients and prep the bread by spreading butter generously on one side of each slice. Set the bread aside to be used later.
  2. Cook the Bologna: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the bologna slices flat in the pan and cook for about 2–3 minutes on each side until the edges curl and the bologna turns golden and crispy.
  3. Layer the Ingredients: On one buttered bread slice (butter side facing out), place two slices of fried bologna, add a slice of cheese, then two more slices of fried bologna. Sprinkle pickle chips on top if using. Spread mayonnaise and optional mustard on the inside of the top slice of bread and place it over the fillings.
  4. Grill the Sandwich: Return the sandwich to the skillet and cook for about 2–3 minutes per side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese melts thoroughly.
  5. Slice and Serve: Remove the sandwich from the skillet, cut it in half, and serve warm for the best nostalgic flavor experience.

Notes

  • Use thick-cut bologna for better texture and flavor.
  • Choose white or whole wheat bread depending on preference.
  • Pickle chips and mustard are optional but add a nice crunch and tang.
  • Butter the outside of the bread slices to achieve a crispy, golden crust.
  • Cook on medium heat to ensure bologna crisps without burning.
  • Serve immediately while warm and cheese is melted.
