Description

These Cute Bee Sandwich Cutouts are a delightful and visually appealing snack perfect for kids’ parties, picnics, or any fun gathering. Made with soft sandwich bread and spread with cream cheese or hummus, these sandwiches are decorated with fresh vegetables and olives to resemble adorable bees. Surrounded by a colorful assortment of fresh fruits, baby carrots, mini pretzels, cheese cubes, and fresh herbs, this recipe combines nutrition with playful presentation.

Ingredients

Scale

Sandwiches

  • 12 slices soft sandwich bread (white or whole wheat)
  • 6 tablespoons cream cheese or hummus
  • 2 tablespoons honey (optional)
  • 1 small cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 small carrot, thinly sliced
  • 12 black olives, pitted
  • 12 chive stems

Accompaniments and Garnish

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cup baby carrots
  • 1 cup grapes (green and red)
  • 1 cup strawberries, halved
  • 1 cup mini pretzels
  • 1/2 cup cubed cheese (optional)
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (mint, basil)

Instructions

  1. Cut bread into bee shapes: Using a bee-shaped or oval cookie cutter, cut bee shapes from each slice of sandwich bread, creating 12 bee-shaped bread pieces.
  2. Apply spread: Evenly spread cream cheese or hummus onto half of the bee-shaped bread cutouts. If you prefer a sweeter touch, drizzle honey over the spread.
  3. Assemble sandwiches: Layer thin slices of cucumber and carrot on top of the spread-covered bread pieces. Then cover with the remaining bread cutouts to form complete sandwiches.
  4. Decorate bees: Slice the black olives into thin rings to create bee stripes and cut small pieces for eyes. Gently arrange the olive pieces on top of the sandwiches, pressing slightly into the spread to hold them in place.
  5. Add antennae: Insert two short pieces of chive stems into each sandwich to mimic bee antennae for a whimsical touch.
  6. Arrange on board: Place the decorated bee sandwiches on a large serving board, then surround them with cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, grapes, strawberries, mini pretzels, cubed cheese, and garnish with fresh herbs for a colorful display.
  7. Serve or store: Serve immediately for best freshness, or cover and refrigerate the sandwiches until ready to enjoy outdoors or at your event.

Notes

  • Choose whole wheat bread for a healthier option.
  • Use cream cheese for a creamy texture or hummus for a vegan alternative.
  • Honey is optional, add it for a hint of sweetness.
  • Fresh herbs like mint or basil add a nice aroma and decorative finish.
  • Keep the sandwiches refrigerated if not serving immediately to maintain freshness.
  • Customize the cutout shapes with other cookie cutters for different themes and occasions.
