Description
Delicious Cruffins are a delightful hybrid pastry combining the flaky texture of a croissant with the convenient shape of a muffin. This easy recipe uses puff pastry to create sweet, buttery spirals baked to golden perfection and dusted with powdered sugar. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet snack, you can customize them with your favorite fillings like jam, Nutella, or cinnamon sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Optional Filling
- Filling of choice (jam, Nutella, cinnamon sugar, or pastry cream)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a muffin tin to prevent sticking.
- Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll the thawed puff pastry sheet into a 12×10 inch rectangle to prepare for layering.
- Brush and sprinkle: Brush the entire surface of the dough with melted butter, then evenly sprinkle granulated sugar and ground cinnamon over it to add sweetness and flavor.
- Slice and roll: Cut the dough into 4 long strips. If using a filling, spread it evenly over each strip. Roll each strip tightly into a spiral, then place them upright into the muffin tin cups.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cruffins have puffed up and turned a beautiful golden brown color.
- Cool and dust: Allow the cruffins to cool slightly before dusting them generously with powdered sugar for a finishing touch.
Notes
- Ensure the puff pastry is thawed completely for easy rolling.
- Use a light hand with the cinnamon if you prefer a milder spice flavor.
- Fillings are optional but add an extra layer of flavor and moisture.
- The baked cruffins are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- For an extra crispy exterior, brush with butter again halfway through baking.
