Description

Delightful and savory Cream Cheese Spinach Puffs made with flaky puff pastry filled with a creamy blend of spinach, cream cheese, Parmesan, and garlic. Perfect as a vegetarian appetizer or party bite that is both easy to prepare and deliciously satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and well-drained
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Puff Pastry

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Make the Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, well-drained chopped spinach, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated and creamy.
  3. Roll and Cut Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet into a 10×10-inch square. Cut the pastry into 9 equal-sized squares for individual puffs.
  4. Fill Pastry Squares: Spoon approximately 1 tablespoon of the prepared filling into the center of each pastry square, ensuring an even amount in each.
  5. Shape and Seal: Fold each square into a triangle by bringing corners together or pinch the corners up to the center to seal the filling inside securely, preventing leakage during baking.
  6. Apply Egg Wash: Brush the tops of each filled pastry puff with the beaten egg. This will give them a beautiful golden and glossy finish once baked.
  7. Bake: Place the prepared puffs on the lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until they are puffed up and golden brown on top.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the puffs to cool slightly before serving so the filling sets and they are easier to handle.

Notes

  • Make sure to squeeze out all the excess moisture from the spinach to avoid soggy pastry puffs.
  • For a touch of heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the filling mixture.
  • You can substitute feta cheese for Parmesan to give the filling a tangier flavor.
