- 1 1/2 cups chocolate cookie crumbs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Filling
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Topping
- Whipped cream for topping
- Crushed candy canes for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the tart crust.
- Prepare crust mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the chocolate cookie crumbs with the melted unsalted butter and mix thoroughly until the crumbs are evenly coated.
- Form crust: Press the crumb mixture firmly into the base and sides of a tart pan to create an even crust layer.
- Bake crust: Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then remove and let it cool completely to set.
- Heat cream: In a saucepan, gently heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer, but do not boil.
- Make ganache: Remove the cream from heat, add dark chocolate chips and peppermint extract, then stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
- Fill tart: Pour the peppermint chocolate ganache into the cooled crust, spreading it evenly.
- Chill tart: Refrigerate the tart for at least 2 hours to allow the filling to set firmly.
- Serve: Before serving, top the tart with whipped cream and sprinkle crushed candy canes over the top for a festive finish.
Notes
- Use a tart pan with a removable bottom for easier serving.
- Allow the crust to cool fully before adding the filling to prevent melting.
- For a stronger peppermint flavor, you can add up to 1 1/2 teaspoons of peppermint extract.
- Store the tart in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 3 days.
- Crushed candy canes add both flavor and texture, but can be omitted for a milder taste.
