Description

These delicious Caramel Apple Bites are a perfect bite-sized treat featuring mini pretzels topped with melted caramel and crisp apple pieces. Ideal for parties or a sweet snack, they combine the salty crunch of pretzels with the sweet, gooey caramel and fresh apple for a delightful flavor contrast.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 38 mini twist or snap-style pretzels
  • 1 bag (about 14 oz) Kraft caramels, unwrapped
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 red apple

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 250°F (about 120°C) to gently melt the caramels without burning them.
  2. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate cleanup.
  3. Arrange Pretzels: Place the mini pretzels on the baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart to allow room for melting caramel.
  4. Add Caramels: Unwrap each caramel piece and place one in the center of every pretzel.
  5. Melt Caramels: Bake for 10 minutes to soften and slightly melt the caramels.
  6. Prepare Apples: While baking, clean, dry, core, and chop the apples into 1 to 1½-inch chunks without peeling. To prevent browning, keep the cut apple pieces submerged in a bowl of water or Sprite.
  7. Insert Toothpicks: After baking, carefully insert a toothpick into the top of each apple piece with the peel side facing up, ensuring the toothpick sticks out slightly from the bottom for handling.
  8. Assemble Bites: Press the apple pieces with toothpicks into the melted caramel atop each pretzel, flattening them gently to cover more of the pretzel surface.
  9. Set and Serve: Let the bites rest at room temperature for at least 5 minutes to allow the caramel to firm up before serving.

Notes

  • Using Sprite or water to prevent apple browning keeps the bites looking fresh and appetizing.
  • Make sure to keep pretzels spaced out enough to avoid sticking together after caramel melts.
  • Use toothpicks with care and supervise children during assembly to avoid injury.
  • These bites are best served the same day for optimal freshness and texture.
