Description

Tender beef tips simmered in a savory sauce served over fluffy long-grain white rice, making a hearty and comforting meal perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef and Sauce

  • 2 lbs beef tips (or stew meat)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cold water

Rice

  • 2 cups long-grain white rice
  • 4 cups water or beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare and Brown Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat. Add beef tips and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove beef from pan and set aside.
  2. Sauté Onion and Garlic: In the same pan, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
  3. Create Sauce Base: Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Stir to combine. Add onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Simmer Beef in Sauce: Return beef tips to the pan, cover, and reduce heat to low. Let simmer gently for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until beef is tender and the sauce has thickened slightly.
  5. Thicken the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and cold water until smooth to create a slurry. Gradually stir this slurry into the simmering sauce. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes to thicken, stirring frequently.
  6. Cook the Rice: While the beef simmers, rinse the long-grain white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a separate pot, bring 4 cups of water or beef broth to a boil. Add the rice, butter, and a pinch of salt. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat and fluff with a fork.
  7. Serve: Plate the cooked rice and spoon the tender beef tips with sauce over the top. Garnish if desired and serve hot for a fulfilling meal.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine to the sauce after browning the beef.
  • If you prefer thicker sauce, increase the flour slurry amount slightly.
  • Use beef broth instead of water to cook rice for enhanced taste.
  • Slow simmering helps tenderize the beef, avoid rushing this step for best results.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheat well.
