Ingredients
Scale
Brisket and Rub
- 2 pounds beef brisket, trimmed
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Cooking Liquids and Sauce
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1/2 cup beef broth
Assembly
- 6 brioche or sandwich buns
- 1 cup coleslaw (optional)
- 1/4 cup sliced pickles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 325°F to prepare for slow roasting the brisket to tender perfection.
- Prepare Brisket: Pat the brisket dry with paper towels and rub evenly with olive oil to help the seasoning adhere and promote browning.
- Make Seasoning Rub: In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Rub this seasoning mixture thoroughly over the entire brisket.
- Roast Brisket: Place the seasoned brisket in a roasting dish and pour beef broth around it to keep the meat moist. Cover the dish tightly with foil to trap steam, then bake for 2 1/2 to 3 hours until the brisket is tender and can be easily shredded with a fork.
- Rest and Shred: Remove the brisket from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes to allow juices to redistribute. Then use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.
- Mix with Sauce: Combine the shredded brisket with barbecue sauce and some of the cooking juices to keep it moist and flavorful.
- Toast Buns: Lightly toast the brioche or sandwich buns if desired for added texture and flavor.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Pile the shredded BBQ brisket onto each bun and top with coleslaw and sliced pickles if using. Serve warm for the best taste.
Notes
- The brisket can be cooked in a slow cooker on low for 8 hours as an alternative for enhanced tenderness.
- For a smokier flavor profile, use hickory or mesquite flavored barbecue sauce.
- Leftover brisket is versatile and can be repurposed for tacos, baked potatoes, or nachos.
